Overview of the listening section in pTE

The listening section of the Pearson Test of English (PTE) exam consists of 8 different types of questions that test your ability to understand spoken English. The 8 types of questions are:

  1. Summarize Spoken Text: This task requires you to listen to a short audio clip and then summarize the main points in one sentence.
  2. Multiple Choice, Single Answer: This task involves listening to an audio clip and selecting the correct answer from a list of options.
  3. Multiple Choice, Multiple Answer: This task involves listening to an audio clip and selecting one or more correct answers from a list of options.
  4. Fill in the Blanks: This task requires you to listen to an audio clip and fill in missing words in a transcript of the spoken text.
  5. Highlight Correct Summary: This task requires you to listen to an audio clip and select the correct summary from a list of options.
  6. Select Missing Word: This task requires you to listen to an audio clip and select the missing word from a list of options.
  7. Highlight Incorrect Words: This task requires you to listen to an audio clip and identify the words that are incorrect in a transcript of the spoken text.
  8. Write From Dictation: This task requires you to listen to an audio clip and write down the exact words you hear.

To perform well in the listening section of the PTE exam, it’s important to practice and improve your listening skills, as well as familiarize yourself with the format and types of questions.
